As the Bars Turn

Funny how something so simple can look so good. I came across a pic on Charlie Mooney's blog the other day that got me thinking. Here I was, all stoked up on a pic of quite possibly the most basic maneuver to be performed on a bicycle. Anyone that knows how to ride a bicycle can perform such feats with reasonable ease. Turn bars, go through turn. But there really is more to it than that. When going through a turn at great speeds, one starts to teeter on the edge of complete control and total loss thereof. Lean the bike over 1 more degree and you're on the ground. Weight the bars incorrectly and they're gonna fold up. Don't look far enough ahead and you're over the turn. Lots of things can go wrong on this seemingly simple task, so here's a few examples of things going right...

First Ride of '09

Unfortunately I didn't partake in the Champagne Ride, nor did I imbibe in the bubbly. However, a secret training partner and I did go for a spin on the G-Way New Year's Day. What better way to work off some of the prior night's concoctions. The sun was up, but the temp was down. So far that midway through the ride conversation became a task as my face was nearly frozen. About an hour later I finally started to warm up and the ride became a little more pleasurable. In the words of the great Ice Cube...I gotta say today was a good day. Last Ride of '08

People came out of the woodwork for the 2008 AJBW Champagne Ride! A good thing since an email was sent out the day before (yeah, we can be a little last minute so check your email often). It was a little windy, but the temp was nice and the skies were clear. 26 miles were ridden and it went off without a hitch. We hope everyone had a Happy and Safe New Year! Enjoy the ride!

Joey Hopkins came out with his Giant TCR Century 100 (1 of only 100 made)
